Hackers attack MPAA website

Supporters of the Pirate Bay, a file-sharing website, recently attacked a website the Motion Picture Association of America uses to report copyright violations pertaining to DVD and Blu-ray discs. An internet security company said DNS cache poisoning had been used to deface Copyprotected.com. Hackers created a homepage message on the website that read “Payback is a [expletive], isn’t it?”, along with the Pirate Bay logo and the words “Operation Payback”. “Someone managed to hijack the DNS registration for Copyprotected.com such that it points to an IP with their own web server displaying their own page”, said security researcher Joel Lathrop, according to V3.co.uk. Copyprotected.com was promptly taken offline to deal with the problem. This is the second time in nearly a month that hackers associated with the Pirate Bay attacked entertainment industry websites. In mid-September, cyber criminals targeted the websites used by the MPAA and Recording Industry Association of America in the U.S. with distributed denial-of-service attacks. The attacks are retaliation as part of Operation Payback for sanctions levied on the Pirate Bay and other file-sharing sites.   Read more
